What does IELTS means?

Exam Pattern of IELTS
IELTS exam consists of four modules:
        Listening
        Reading
        Writing

In reading and writing modules candidates are provided with options, whether to go for general training module or academic module. IELTS Exam Pattern is formatted as:
Total time allotted to exam will be 2hours and 45 minutes.
Listening , reading and writing will be conducted in one day.
Speaking test will be conducted either before or after the week of other modules.


Listening Section:
This section comprises of 40 questions, and is divided into 4 sections. First two sections are based on social survivals and the rest two sections are based on education and training orientation. Time permitted to this section will be 40 minutes. The listening tape will be played once for 30 minutes and in last 10 minutes candidates are used to express opinions they heard through tape.

Reading Section:
It is a 60 minutes test where candidates will be given 40 conversations and series of three texts. Each text contains 13-14 conversations of different format. Similar questions will be asked but of different format text. Format of text might be newspapers, notices, advertisements, instruction manuals, books etc.

Writing Section:
This sections consist of two mandatory task (writing) with permitted time of 60 minutes. One of the task will be of 20 minutes where candidates are asked to write (150 words) on the visuals presented like diagrams, charts, graphs or tables. Second task will be of 40 minutes where candidates will be writing on the task in not more than 250 words writing and justifying the opinion or idea.
Speaking Section:

This section is basically one to one interaction between the candidates and the examiner. Test varies from 11-14 minutes, with nature of interactions as introduction and interview, long turn conversation and discussion.
