CELPIP-Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program

CELPIP is an English language proficiency test marked by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent resident status in the country. In addition, it also facilitates those who are seeking for work permit in Canada in the fields of Nursing, Manufacturing and Food processing. 

One of the versions of the CELPIP Test is the CELPIP- General Test which evaluate the test taker in functional Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking skills. The test for permanent residency in Canada is accepted by the IRCC as well as the Real Estate Council of British Columbia and Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council.

The test provides a rational and authentic measurement of the candidate’s English abilities in a variety of routine setup and circumstances like written and verbal communication in offices, discussion with colleagues and superiors in the workplace, social interaction, understanding newscasts and interpreting and responding to written materials.

CELPIP is a fully computerized test with no human intervention and allows candidates to complete all the test modules in one sitting. It offers test takers a quick and reliable testing experience.

Listening Section

There are 6 parts to this section.

For each part, an audio clip is played for 1 to 1.5 mins, only once.

Reading Section

There are four parts to this section.

You are allowed 10 minutes to read each passage and answer the question, in each part.

Once you leave your page, you cannot return to it.

Writing Section

There are two writing tasks each for 150-200 words.

The test will show your word count as you are typing your answer.

Task 1: 27 min. (Writing an email)

Task 2: 26 min. (Responding to Survey Questions)

Speaking Section

There are 8 tasks in this section.

Each task requires recording for 60-90 seconds.

There are 30 seconds of preparation time.

You are tested for your spoken English by recording your responses while speaking into a microphone.

CELPIP IELTS EQUIVALENCY 

Canadian Language Benchmarking (CLB) is used to measure the test takers proficiency by the immigration agency.
