If you are
planning to appear for the NCLEX RN
examination between July and September 2017 there is a high chance that you may
be given an opportunity to participate in the Special Research section at the
end of your NCLEX RN examination. Once you have finished all your questions in
the examination, you will be asked whether you wish to participate in the
Special Research section.
“This
section is designed to collect data on new item types that could expand or
enhance the measurement of entry-level nursing competence including clinical
judgment”, according to the NCSBN website. This research section will take
approximately 30 minutes to complete. Data pertaining to developing better
scoring rules, providing evidence of item characteristics and finding how much
time the candidate spends on them are some of the types of information that the
research will intend on collecting. This section is purely optional and will
not be scored. Therefore, it will not in any way affect the examination results
of any candidate. At this point of time only selected NCLEX RN candidates will
be given an opportunity to participate in the Special Research section.
Authorities say that in the future there are plans to include even the NCLEX PN
candidates in the special research section.
