WAYS TO IMPROVE READING SKILLS FOR NURSES DOING OET

OET is the bridge to fulfilling the dreams of many Indian nurses who want to work in countries like Australia, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and much more. This test is profession specific which makes it a better examination compared to other tests for both the students and healthcare assessors to ensure that the candidates applying for certain jobs are well qualified up to the expected standards of safety and practice. The OET is similar to the IELTS exam as it has four modules namely reading, writing, speaking and listening. There are no marks given to the modules but the examination results are given out in grades. The passing standard for the OET Examination is at least a B grade in all the four modules. The only exception is Dubai, which accepts a C grade and offers jobs to nurses in its kingdom.

In order to score well at the reading module, the below-mentioned tips can prove very helpful when followed.
·        Practice reading beyond the test material- Many students focus on practicing reading only from the test material provided to them by their coaching institutes or what they find in the online test preparation packs. However, doing just this is not enough as the examination assess the overall understanding of the candidate in English. To improve in this matter, make good use of the articles that appear in different forms on various topics like current affairs, science or health. You can also make reading your daily habit and read English texts from your own favorite website or magazines. It is not merely enough to read what is given in the paragraphs of articles, reviewing is also vital to understanding. Ask yourself questions and try to summarize in a line or two the central thought given in the paragraph and the motive of the writer.
·        Develop the right knack for each part of the reading subtest- the three parts of the reading subtest checks for different skills so one must be prepared to skim in the A part and to read carefully the meaning of each sentence in the next two parts. To improve in this part, you can use textbooks with summary points or even an index which lists down main points of a particular article or a chapter.

Interpreting Process Diagram   In IELTS , process diagram is a less common but still very important task type as students are required to use specific language to interpret the relevant information. In this task type, the steps are shown through visual information.   The process may be natural or man-made.     Here are some tips to interpret this task type correctly to get high band score.   •The initial thing to decide about a process diagram is the tense usage: if the chart includes a natural process, use present indefinite tense but if it is a man-made process, then, write it in present passive tense as in a man-made process the emphasize is on steps not on the person conducting the process. •The second thing to decide is the use of connectors to make the task coherent. In this kind of chart students should use sequential connectors.  Some commonly used sequential connectors are: First, Next, Then, After t...

Why PTE? Many candidates come and ask the same question again and again that why PTE, why not IELTS. Just to clear this question first of all I would like to say that it all depends upon the candidate’s choice which exam he/she prefer, but it is also very important to know about both the exam what they are and what are patterns of that exam.
